Ultimately she earned the gratitude of the dukes and her own duchy, and she became the Duchess of Erat. Beldaran soon died, but Polgara, as a sorceress and disciple of Aldur, did not age. Although the male disciples tended to be gray-haired, Polgara remained young.

I have to admit I was also a eddigns bothered by some of the double standards about chastity and sexuality, when comparing what Belgarath got up to, and what Polgara was forbidden to do. It tells of her relationship with her mother and her twin sister, the animosity eddinngs feels towards her father and her ongoing relationship with him, the way she finally loses Beldaran multiple times, in several waysand the way she learns about her gift eddinsg how to use it.

David Eddings’ first books which were general fiction sold moderately well. When Belgarath returned to take care of his daughters, Beldaran was quick to forgive him but Polgara often fled to the Tree at the center of the Vale of Aldur, where she befriended and learned to speak to birds.

The first prequel tells a first person narrative of the life of Belgarath the Sorcerer’the Eternal Man’; this second one is the same, courtesy of his daughter, Polgara.

She imposed her own particular notions on the people of her duchy, modernizing its government and freeing her serfs. She is supremely convinced of the rightness of her actions. Ten books of characterization completely undercut in this explosion of sexist twaddle. The focus of her work was to end sometimes by force the Arendish civil wars. These series along with the companion books, Belgarath and Polgara are must reads for any science fiction fans.

The fictional character of Polgara is the many generations removed aunt of Belgarion and the daughter of Belgarath. As this book went along I began to find traces of the “smug voice” that has ruined Eddings’ work past this realm for me.

It’s a wonderful ending to the series, and a reminder of sacrifices made to bring about the changes we need in the world. Polgara bitterly resented the “loss” of her sister, who had been the center of her life, but the shared loss eventually brought father and daughter closer together, and Polgara was presented for the first time as beautiful Polgara the Sorceress.

It’s the story of her life up to Pawn of Prophecy by Polgara and edeings I liked the voice, edrings for the sexism and racism. The strong point of this series was the adventure, not the characterization nor the witty dialogue which Eddings seemed to imagine he was writing so I see no need to read this unless you are a Belgariad completist. She and she alone is the ‘grown up’ in the room and everyone else is under her thumb or else. Do a good job.

So of the two prequel books, I definitely prefer the one from Polgara’s viewpoint over Belgarath’s. She became an expert in not being noticed, often living in the towns of Sendaria. Originally published on my blog here in September Awash in sexism, with a liberal sprinkling of racism, this story follows the titular character as she bullies her way through history.

Again it has the feel of fireside story telling, although since it is Pol it should be more of stove side story telling given her love of cooking and her need to feed people I swear sh This is a great addition to the story told with Polgara’s usual dry wit, cutting sarcasm and superb observations. The story of the world of Belgarath and his family now occupies twelve books, though the two prequels match in length any two of the others. I love David Eddings, Polgara is simply annoying.
