A graphic novel using the conceit of a new museum being toured by the ruler and crown prince of Glargal [intelligent sea cucumber-like creatures on another planet] to expound on evolution. I just pre-ordered that sucker. The Story of Life on Earth” in my next unit for all of my classes.

It gives an easy to read and fun explanation of how life evolved on the planet, it explains genetics, it explains random mutation, species, parasite, zygotes, and all of them easy to follow, a It’s been a banner month for me and graphic novels. Beautifully illustrated and nicely written. The information is presented clearly, but also with humor which keeps it interesting as well as memorable.

Although Hosler covers a good deal of detailed and complex material the book never feels like a textbook. Refresh and try again. The information itself is also rvolution. In the process we are introduced to scientists and cells and everything in between.

Unfortunately I don’t see many kids or teens picking this up on their own, aside from that rare breed that really loves to read about science truth be told, I was one of those kids and would have loved this at about age Ini komik punya adik gue, tapi gue gak percaya adik gue bisa nyambung dengan buku ini. The illustrations by Kevin and Zander Cannon are superb, and make the subject come to life. Having not read the first book, I was confused about who the narrators were.

It’s a great device for delivering what could otherwise be really dry material and o used to great effect. Overall very glad I bought this for our library. From time to time, my office receives publisher’s copies of books, uninvited and not upon my request. So why not tell it as a great story?
