Can someone please let me know what audience you think this is suited for. A short read–and certainly an interesting one–but not particularly enjoyable. Sometimes a story has such an unsatisfying ending that I would rather have not read it at all.

Ho trovato i personaggi freddi, nessuna empatia con loro, non sono riuscita ad affezionarmi. We get some hints that nebbish boy feels he had somehow been part of a betrayal, but not enough. The narrator’s feelings are only touched on briefly and the living conditions of living through Mao’s cultural revolution could have been explored in more detail. The story is sweet, easy on the mind, with a quick look at the gruesome life someone who goes through re-education has to face. I picked up this book because one of my best friends lent it to me. However there are many flaws with this story that are hard to overlook.

Paperbackpages. I loved the premise. Towards the end the perspective changes for what feels like absolutely no reason and I found xijie saying, “what?!

E’ la storia di due giovani ragazzi che leggono di nascosto alcuni libri che sono stati proibiti dal regime di Mao, tra cui Balzac, appunto, Dumas, e molti altri. Also, since it is set in China during the late s and early 70s’ “re-education” that occurred under Chairman Mao, it has shown me a particular aspect of history that I had never before known.

Overall, this novel simply feels like a modern retelling of the ancient Greek story of Pygmalion.

costurerz He doesn’t care about her education, he doesn’t want to turn her into a better, brighter version of herself. It reads more like a parable or a short story than a novel.

The most interesting part was the story of Four-Eyes, his mother, the suitcase and the folk songs. The narrator on the other hand, keeping his distance out of respect for his best friend’s relationship with the seamstress, loves her for who she is.

Maybe great for people who knows a lot of Chinese Revolutions, because they can appreciate the details in this book better than I do. There’s not much to really say, except that it’s about these two teen friends who have to be “reeducated” but the reeducation doesn’t seem serious as Well that was disappointing. The Little Seamstress is their love interest, a daught I had a dream about this book yesterday, when I was about one-third in: Dai Sijie’s first novel tells the story about two teenage boys sent to the mountains in China for “re-education” under the Maoist regime.

Well that was disappointing. Return to Book Page. These supposedly teenage boys in the 20th century speak with an affectation that feels unrelatable and false. It’s sold as a love story, dxi actually the friendship between Luo and the narrator is the thing that sticks to my mind the most.

She actually could have been a lot more interesting had the author bothered to exert himself with her cozturera. The book reads like an outline where the reader can see just where he or she would be interested in reading more, but unfortunately is denied that opportunity. These novels also serve to sustain the two companions during this difficult time. The boys have no access to books of any kind until they discover that a friend in a nearby village has hidden away a suitcase full of classics translated into Chinese.

I libri che leggono regalano loro emozioni, bellezza e poesia e saranno utili per conquistare la “piccola sarta cinese”.
